Aledo begins phased police operations; county reduces patrol contract and adjusts dispatch agreement

Sheriff Mark Arnett told the commissioners that the City of Aledo will begin limited daytime policing operations soon and that the sheriff's office would continue to provide nighttime patrols. The contractual amendment removes one deputy from the Alito (Aledo) patrol arrangement and reduces the county’s billable contract by roughly the cost of that deputy’s salary and benefits.
Arnett said the removed position represents “on average cost about between a 110 and a $120,000 a year,” and commissioners discussed how the county budget and a separate dispatching contract will offset the change. The court approved the amendment on a recorded vote.
