Developer to fund new signal at Kelly Road–US 377; county to design under $57,440 amendment

The commissioners on Nov. 24 approved a design amendment for the Kelly Road project to add traffic signal design at the intersection with U.S. 377. Engineering consultant Freese Nichols told the court the developer will fund the signal's construction and donate right‑of‑way to widen the turn lane; the county will provide survey and design management services under an amendment of $57,440.
"The developer is actually funding the construction of the signal, and then the the partnership with the county is that, will include the the county would do the design of the signal," the consultant said. The consultant added that the poles and signal assembly for that wide intersection could cost in the $600,000–$800,000 range, and that preordering poles through TxDOT approval would speed delivery. Commissioners voted to approve the amendment so design work can proceed concurrently with procurement steps.
