Commissioners on Nov. 24 affirmed that a parking lot for the county's new elections building is a budgeted and necessary safety improvement but cautioned that timing and weather will likely prevent completion before early‑voting preparations begin.
Elections staff told the court that staff training for early voting begins Feb. 1 and that site work interrupted by rain could delay construction until June if it cannot start in time. "February 1 is when we're gonna start training and getting everybody ready for the election," the elections administrator said, noting the compressed schedule between the March primary and subsequent elections.
The court directed staff to proceed as weather allows, to post clear signage for voters and to coordinate access points. Commissioners stressed the project's safety and accessibility aims and asked staff to prioritize temporary measures (signing and routing) if full construction cannot be completed before early voting.
