Nevada Health Centers reports vaccinations, staffing gaps and telehealth expansion

A Nevada Health Centers representative updated the Elko County Board of Health on recent immunization activity, staffing challenges and community outreach.
The presenter reported 875 total immunizations in Elko between July 1 and Sept. 30, representing 473 patients, and said the clinic had given 154 flu shots in Elko since mid-August. The representative noted that Nevada Health Centers is not currently carrying COVID, RSV or shingles vaccines at clinic sites and is referring patients to local pharmacies for those products.
Staffing remains a constraint: the clinics are seeking locum providers and expect several offers to be considered in coming months. An LCSW (licensed clinical social worker) is scheduled to begin seeing behavioral-health patients locally in mid-November, and the center is partnering with Great Basin College students to bolster MA staffing through rotations.
Commissioners and the presenter discussed recruitment challenges, licensure reciprocity, use of locum agencies and telehealth expansion in Jackpot and Carlin. The presenter said the center is exploring ways to broaden pharmacy access to support patient engagement and recruitment.
