County staff report SNAP caseloads, one-time contribution estimate in budget preview

Administrator Hulte told the board the packet includes the latest SNAP information and that there may be a one-time county contribution listed for 2027 of roughly $92,006 but cautioned the figure is preliminary. "As soon as we get a little more confirmation on that, that'll be part of the more concrete information you'll have in August," Hulte said.
Commissioners asked staff to supply current caseload numbers; one member noted the county had previously provided that data and staff agreed to include it. A public attendee cited a 2023 figure from an internet source: "In 2023, 3,176 persons were receiving SNAP benefits in Winona County," the attendee said; staff said they would provide an official count at the next meeting.
The board did not adopt any action on SNAP funding at the meeting, and staff said any adjustments to the admin fee and county share of benefits will be part of the August packet.
