Board tables Native Success MOU after public concerns about training and curriculum

District staff presented a proposal to join a county 'Native Success' learning community intended to support Title VI coordination and Native student engagement. Staff described the MOU as funding and training to enable the district's Title VI coordinator to network, attend trainings and plan cultural engagement activities — not to impose new classroom curriculum (SEG 2260–2276).
Several public commenters opposed the measure as presented, stating they had attended a county training and describing material they found objectionable. One attendee said the workshop framed "we all live in a colonial box" and that a presenter described "whiteness is white supremacy," language the commenter equated with critical race theory and called "harmful." "I attended the training... she never used a single bit of stats or any information that she gave to improve the very numbers that Brian was talking about," the commenter said (SEG 2398–2406, SEG 2440–2444). The board discussed options including an amendment to allow the district to opt out of curriculum components and asked staff to secure an amendment or more information before final approval. The board's motion was to table the item pending an amendment that allows an opt-out option and to return with more specific assurances about scope and content.
