Price said one new cattle guard installation can run about $16,000–$18,000 and noted that striping performed under the agreement with NDOT is a substantial recurring cost. "I think we used to be budgeted for around 10,000, but there's we've been upgrading signs as much as off as we can every year," Price said while describing sign upgrades and maintenance priorities. He told the commission the department is targeting a seven-year rotation for paved roads if funding allows and that micro-surfacing has performed well on recent projects.
Commissioners praised the departmental work and the ongoing partnership with the City of Elko for traffic-signal operations and repairs. Price said the department collects material from local pits where feasible to cut costs and continues routine blading across more than 1,000 miles per year.
