Hospital reports 528 flu shots, 740 pounds of food collected at drive‑through clinic

At the Elko County Board of Health meeting, Steve Simpson of Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital summarized recent community outreach work.
Simpson said the hospital’s recent drive‑through flu clinic administered 528 vaccines in roughly four hours and relied on more than 80 volunteers, including students from Great Basin College. “In just about 4 hours, we gave 528 flu vaccines,” he said.
The hospital also collected donations for the local food bank; Simpson reported approximately 740 pounds of nonperishable food were gathered to support FISH. He thanked volunteers and community partners and noted the event’s turnout may have been reduced by rainy weather, but called the clinic ‘‘a great event’’ and said the hospital will continue community vaccination efforts.
Simpson additionally reminded the board that October is Cancer Awareness Month and that the hospital offers discounted mammography screening, and he announced a sensory‑sensitive Santa event planned for Dec. 6 to provide a calm environment for families of individuals with developmental disorders.
No formal board action followed this report; the board offered thanks and moved to consent agenda business.
