Resident group urges inclusive design for planned performing arts center; city issues RFP for cost estimates

A representative of Showability asked the Johns Creek council to ensure a planned performing arts center incorporates "inclusive design" that goes beyond minimal ADA compliance to accommodate performers and audience members with a wide range of disabilities.
"Inclusive design...thoughtful about all abilities and not necessarily one like mobility," Myrna Clayton told the council, noting that many venues lack accessible backstage and tech‑area access. Mayor John Bradbury directed the speaker to staff and City Manager Kimberly Greer said staff had released an RFP in January for consulting firms to prepare cost estimates for construction, operations and maintenance of a potential performing arts center. Greer said that information would be available for the council's April 14 work session.
Council did not make a funding commitment at the meeting; staff will return with cost estimates and options for council consideration.
