County risk manager reports near-miss form success and a highway incident; FY2025 grants ~ $36,000

At the Feb. 19 Buffalo County Finance Committee meeting, staff reported early successes with a newly introduced near-miss reporting form. Steve Wall said several near-miss reports have been filed since the form’s introduction, and that the reports are helping mitigate hazards across county operations.
Wall described a highway-department brushing incident in which a 4–6-foot log was ejected from a machine and struck a private vehicle; State Patrol filed a report and the matter was submitted to insurance. Wall also said fiscal-year 2025 grants totaling approximately $36,000 have been partially awarded, with some grant awards delayed into later in the year.
