Jerome County approves new polling booths, two May primary polling‑place changes and cheaper postage lease

The Jerome County Board of Commissioners voted March 23 to buy 10 new double‑sided polling booths and to approve two polling‑place changes for the May 19, 2026 primary.
Deputy Clerk Ryan Treanor told the board "the county is in need of some new polling booths" after staff relied on older and damaged units in the previous general election. Elections staff presented a quote for 10 double sets (20 booths total) priced at $280 per set; the board approved the $2,800 purchase so newer booths can replace the older blue units.
The board also approved two precinct location changes for the May primary. Staff said the Episcopal Parish Hall is no longer available at the Bishop Court precinct because "the back room that was used previously is now being used as a place of residence," and that Renew Church agreed to host the precinct. Shepherdview precinct will continue to use Jerome Middle School but move from the gym to the school library after security concerns raised by the district.
Elections administrator Cy Lootens told the board that Idaho Code requires polling locations to remain the same for both the primary and the general election and that the board will revisit locations before the November general election.
In related business, Cy said Pitney Bowes advised the county that its postage machine was out of compliance. "The new machine is going to be $100 cheaper per quarter than the current lease," he said. The board approved a replacement lease and machine.
