Council presses for clear definition of 'attainment' and better data for a state scorecard

Members agreed the council must define what counts as 'attainment' for Mississippi and decide whether to include short‑term credentials alongside associate and bachelor degrees. Jason (data lead) and others cautioned that national models such as Lumina’s '55 by 2035' informed historic estimates, but state needs may require a bespoke methodology; members called for a stable, repeatable measure so year‑over‑year progress is comparable.
Participants also raised technical data issues: deduplication of short‑term certificates, limited wage data and the need to present regional context so spreadsheet figures are digestible. Members recommended forming the data/reporting advisory committee (chair Jason Dean referenced) to develop definitions, methodology and a public dashboard showing completion, placement, retention and wage outcomes.
