Calaveras County Water District outlines reservoir expansion and resilience work for West Point

Kelly Gerkensmeyer, a long-time Calaveras County Water District operations manager, presented a system overview focused on West Point's water-supply assets and resilience projects. She said the Bumberville Regulating Reservoir currently holds roughly 50 acre-feet and that a grant-funded project would enlarge storage toward 150 acre-feet to improve long-term reliability; the project is in environmental and planning stages. "This project focuses on improving long term water supply reliability for the whole system of West Point," Kelly said while reviewing the CIP project description.
CCWD staff also described recent work at the West Point treatment plant, where a second filter was added to provide redundancy, and discussed generator programs and fuel logistics that bear on how long pump stations can operate during outages. Director of Operations Damon Wyckoff urged conservation after the Arrow Fire and highlighted the operational coordination required to keep water flowing during emergencies.
