Andrea Hutchins (AWS) told the task force AWS has invested more than $10 billion in Mississippi since 2019 and has planned investments totaling $25 billion that the company expects will create about 2,000 permanent operations jobs across several campuses. "Since 2019, AWS has invested more than $10,000,000,000 in Mississippi," Hutchins said, and she highlighted community workforce programs such as the information infrastructure pre‑apprenticeship (I2PA) and mobile training labs.
Heather Coyle of the Data Center Coalition summarized industry economic figures from a PWC‑commissioned 2024 study: about 3,030 direct jobs in the sector in 2024, a 13,710 total employment contribution, roughly $768 million in labor income and $1.3 billion contribution to Mississippi GDP in 2024. Brett Collard of Compass described company practices—closed‑loop cooling, developer-funded grid work, community investments and pathway programs with local colleges—and encouraged local governments to use developer checklists to differentiate class‑A providers from land flippers.
Industry speakers repeatedly urged data‑driven policy, public engagement, and workforce investments rather than broad regulatory restrictions that could reduce competitiveness.
