Postsecondary Attainment Council adopts operating rules, elects Lauren Lawhorn chair

The Mississippi Postsecondary Attainment Council voted to adopt its operating guidelines and rules of procedure and immediately moved to elect leadership for the council. Acting facilitator Courtney called for a motion to approve the guidelines; after a second the council approved them by voice vote. “You have your first set of rules and procedure for the Mississippi Postsecondary Attainment Council,” Courtney said after the vote.
Council members then nominated and confirmed Lauren Lawhorn, chief human resources officer at C Spire, as chair and Maury Hall as vice chair. Lawhorn’s nomination was moved and seconded and carried by voice vote. Members discussed the statutory composition of the executive committee and staff support for next steps; Courtney noted that the chair will serve on the executive committee and that committee assignments and meeting schedules will be circulated to members by email.
The approved operating guidelines establish the council’s obligations under Senate Bill 25 24, including setting a postsecondary attainment goal, producing a public scorecard, and organizing committees to carry out data, alignment and strategy work. The council directed staff to collect committee membership recommendations and return a proposed calendar for committee work and full‑council meetings.
