Sheriff asks for new officers and equipment; council approves scaled equipment funding

Sheriff Steve Bush told the council he "would like to add 2 officers" to merit ranks for 2026. The Sheriff also proposed increased equipment funding, including a line to cover body cameras. The equipment line for body cameras was reduced from $161,000 to $75,000 with the caveat that the council could be notified if additional funds were needed at time of purchase. The LIT-Jail tax revenue was discussed; staff noted an expected $6.2 million in LIT revenue and moved meals/food ($475,000) and medical services ($1,205,000) to the Public Safety LIT fund during budget adjustments.
