Floyd County judges seek added staff and pay increases in 2026 budget requests

Superior Court 1 Judge Stiller requested a new Administrative Assistant II, said she needs a new copier, eliminated a part-time position and asked for a net increase of $50,382. Magistrate Judge Flanigan requested a $4,547 increase; Superior Court 3 Judge Granger requested $7,555 (including a 3% cost-of-living adjustment) and Judge Hancock requested $7,055, also limited to a 3% COLA.
The council and auditor discussed funding options and internal adjustments; auditor Diana Topping noted some positions and copier costs could be managed by transferring lines within departmental budgets. The requests will be revisited as council staff reconcile appropriations and consider cap limits on Form 3.
