Allen County Attorney Spencer Feighner presented an agreement to the Board of Commissioners on Feb. 27 to provide four Allen County Sheriff’s deputies to serve as School Resource Officers for Northwest Allen County Schools. Feighner told commissioners the school district will pay 85 percent of salary and benefits for the assigned officers because they spend that proportion of their time working in schools and with students. He also noted the contract is unchanged from previous years and that roughly 12–15 officers serve in Allen County schools; officers from the Fort Wayne Police Department serve Fort Wayne Community Schools.
The board approved the agreement after a motion by Commissioner Ronald W. Turpin and a second by Commissioner Richard E. Beck; the vote was recorded as 2‑0.
