Commissioner Markel received a draft of proposed changes to the county dog ordinance from Susan Bevers. During discussion, Commissioner Matt Reedy expressed concern about certain breeds and recommended requiring registration for specific breeds, citing four incidents this year involving pit bulls, and requested a fine for failure to register so the Canine Control Officer can visually assess animals.
Commissioner Markel asked that the dog ordinance remain on the agenda for the next meeting so staff can prepare specific language and enforcement options. No ordinance text or draft fines were adopted at the Aug. 19 meeting.
