Cayuga County posts 2025–2030 Community Health Assessment; health officials note uptick in respiratory illness

The Cayuga County Health Department announced that it has completed its 2025–2030 Community Health Assessment (CHA) and posted the document on the department website, Health Director Kathleen Cuddy told the committee.
"completed our required 2025-2030 Community Health Assessment (CHA), which is now prominently posted on a button our website: www.cayugacounty.gov/health," Cuddy said as she summarized work that drew on countywide survey responses and updated statistics on social determinants of health. She said the CHA will be used to develop the mandatory Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP), which the department expects to submit in June.
Cuddy and Senior Public Health Educator Meghan McCole described the CHA as a data-driven snapshot meant to support grant-writing and program planning. The health department also reported an increase in respiratory illnesses this fall and winter; Dr. Cassandra Archer prepared a graph comparing flu cases from October–December 2025 with the prior year’s figures, indicating a rise in local flu activity. The department said it will monitor trends and use the CHA data to prioritize interventions in the CHIP.
The department did not provide a detailed case count in the committee update; officials said additional analysis and recommendations will appear in the CHIP filing due in June.
