Assigned Counsel reports December arraignment numbers; committee authorizes lease and administrator appointment

Lloyd Hoskins, representing the Assigned Counsel office, told the committee there were 57 arraignments in December: 23 (40%) in town/village courts, 32 (56%) in Auburn City Court and 2 (4%) in County Court. He reported 32 defendants (56%) were released on their own recognizance and 25 (44%) were held; 25 (44%) of the arraignments were brought on arrest or bench warrants. Attorney costs associated with the Centralized Arraignment Program (CAP) for December were $10,280 and costs for Counsel at First Appearance were $11,576; both expenses were paid from an Indigent Legal Services (ILS) grant.
Hoskins also noted two resolutions submitted for committee consideration: a resolution to sign a two-year lease for Assigned Counsel’s office at the Auburn Professional Building (1-26-JP-3) and a resolution appointing an Administrator for Indigent Defendants and setting compensation (1-26-JP-2). The committee approved both resolutions (motions recorded as Winslow, second by McNabb-Coleman, and Pecher where recorded) with "all in favor" votes.
