Tonasket middle school completes special education revamp for 31 students; plans parent night on 'Hidden in Plain Sight'

Middle School Principal Trisha Roach reported that the district has completed a comprehensive revamp of the middle school special education model; the minutes state the changes benefit 31 middle school students. Roach also said preliminary iReady testing results show significant improvements and that the district will administer one-day WIDA testing for English learners.
Roach described strong community support: 45 coats were donated by North 40 (15 per school), SunOpta regularly donates fruit snacks to the MS, and winter store PBIS donations were substantial. She noted a sliding window was installed at the MS office to allow students to speak with office staff without entering the building, and the school recently held a well-attended winter band and choir concert.
Roach announced a February parent engagement night titled "Hidden in Plain Sight," designed to display items related to drugs and alcohol so parents can better recognize warning signs. Counselors also attended training on online predator awareness.
