Elementary Principal Lilly Martin reported to the board that the elementary school has seen a significant decrease in discipline incidents compared with the prior year. To encourage positive behavior, staff made a New Year's resolution that each staff member will give out 15 'paws' per day as positive reinforcement.
Martin also described instruction and professional development plans: vertical alignment meetings with adjacent grade levels and coordination with sixth-grade teachers at the middle school, in-house professional development focused on Math and Reading, and deployment of GLAD (Guided Language Acquisition Design) strategies to support English language learners.
The minutes list multiple February events at the elementary, including School Counselors Week, the Jump Rope for Heart challenge, and Math is Cool; the elementary PTO will host a Valentine's-themed bingo night on Friday the 13th.
