Commissioners weigh alternatives for on-call pay: flat hourly vs. salary add-on

Jerome County staff raised options on March 17 for compensating employees who are on call, asking the Board to choose between a flat hourly on-call payment and adding an on-call supplement to employees' salaries.
Jesse Vallez explained one option: "those on call would be paid a flat amount per hour that they are on call." Commissioners responded that a salary supplement could be preferable. "The Board suggested that it be changed to have something added to the employees salary during that time that they are on call," a discussion record shows. Vallez indicated department heads could identify the extra amount to be paid when staff are assigned on-call duties.
No formal decision was recorded; staff were asked to refine the proposed pay language for inclusion in the handbook.
