The Miami County Board of Zoning Appeals approved VAR #158‑26 on June 10 to allow construction of a barndominium on less than the standard 10 acres in Jackson Township. The applicant, Jason Bowland, said demolition timing depends on septic placement but indicated a desire to demolish the old dwelling "within 6 months." The board imposed a condition requiring demolition of the existing residence no later than six months after the Certificate of Occupancy is issued for the new dwelling and approved the variance on the five findings.
Neighbor Krista Pence raised concerns about water runoff and standing water; staff member Corey Roser said the board and staff consider impervious coverage when evaluating runoff. Sue Ellen Sopher moved the six‑month demolition requirement; Randy Hileman seconded and the motion passed with all members recorded in favor.
