Parent urges review of TK→kindergarten rollover after Bethany pupil overflowed

“My son is currently number 2 on Bethany wait list,” said Akanksha Khanna, who identified herself as a Bethany resident and a parent of two. Khanna told trustees that continuing TK students receive priority for kindergarten seats; she said that practice, combined with TK seats at a small number of campuses, has filled Bethany’s kindergarten capacity and forced resident families onto wait lists.
Khanna described the consequences for daily logistics and family cohesion, saying the policy “overrides the district’s goal of keeping siblings together” and asking the board and student services to “closely review the physical capacity numbers at Bethany and also review the nonresident TK policy before the school starts.”
Superintendent Dr. Nicholas thanked Khanna and indicated staff would follow up. The board asked staff to check capacity figures and to contact the family with next steps.
The board did not take action during the meeting; the remark received a staff follow-up pledge from the superintendent.
