Moorefield trustees say they opposed initial TIF to secure negotiations for township revenue

Jack McKee, president of the Moorefield Township trustees, told the commission the trustees formally opposed the initial TIF filing as a negotiating tactic and said the township needs an agreement that provides revenue to support services for the 159 homes planned at Liberty Place. "The township cannot continue to support 159 homes with no revenue coming to the township," McKee said.
McKee said the trustees have been negotiating with the developer and the county and expect to finalize a revenue-sharing agreement that ensures the township can provide services for the new residents. Commissioners said they value the township's involvement and would not approve a TIF unless the schools and township needs were addressed.
County staff clarified that several local levies are not statutorily protected and that those levies could be affected by the TIF distribution; final township payments will be part of the negotiations between the trustee, developer and county and subject to the commissioners' ultimate approval.
The trustees indicated they will continue bargaining and that a public update could occur before the commission's May 20 action.
