Trustee says redevelopment talks could bring thousands of jobs to Rochelle campus

Daren Cotter, Moorefield Township Trustee, described the situation at the former Navistar plant and said the contract at that facility runs through Sept. 30, 2026. Cotter said the plant currently finishes work for GM but that discussions with a prospective employer could lead to rehiring and large-scale employment: "They are talking about the possibility of 5,000 to 7,000 jobs."
Attendees noted that retooling and supplier networks would be necessary and that community reaction could be mixed. Commissioner Rittenhouse and other residents recalled the plants manufacturing history and said a successful redevelopment would have broad ripple effects for suppliers, transportation firms and local employment; speakers also acknowledged the uncertain nature of such negotiations.
