Board approves variance for 28‑ft RV storage building in Harmony Township

The Clark County Board of Zoning Appeals on March 26 approved a variance for an accessory building at 7332 S. Charleston Pike to exceed the 20‑foot height limit for parcels of that size. Rachel Ward, staff for Clark County Community & Economic Development, said the 1.24‑acre parcel is zoned A‑1 and the applicant proposed a 50‑by‑60 foot building about 28 feet tall to permit RV storage.

Andrew Seaman, representing the applicant, said the building requires 14‑foot garage doors and six‑foot trusses; with a 4:12 roof pitch that makes the final peak “a little over 26 feet” and the team requested up to 28 feet as a buffer. Ward told the board the Health District raised no objection but required site approval; the County Engineer recommended gutters and downspouts that discharge onto the applicant’s property to limit runoff to neighboring parcels.

Board members discussed flightpath concerns and local context; Chairperson Paul Hazlett said he did not believe the site was in a flight path, and Board member Breanne Parcels characterized the requested variance as modest given the parcel size and neighboring agricultural uses. The motion to approve carried with the condition that the applicant consult the Health District and comply with the County Engineer’s stormwater and downspout recommendations.

The decision allows the applicant to proceed within the specified conditions; staff encouraged the applicant to contact county staff with questions about required approvals.
