Councilwoman Amanda Lowery told the Jackson County Commissioners there was significant community interest in holding a memorial for Charlie Kirk and requested permission for a candlelight service at 8 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2025, on the courthouse lawn. She asked that elected officials, community leaders and faith-community members be invited and that courthouse restrooms be made available; the board approved the request 3-0.
Commissioner Reedy moved to approve the addition to the agenda and the subsequent motion to authorize the event carried unanimously. The minutes record the time, location and the board's approval; no special conditions or restrictions were recorded beyond restrooms access.
