The Fort Myers City Council approved a professional services agreement with Forerunner Industries for floodplain-management software at a stated annual cost of $64,500.
"This is actually a... software program that... will help us with our flood management program, documentation and implementation," Community Development Director Steve Belding told the council. He said the system would help organize elevation certificates and floodplain information and that other nearby governments, including Lee County and Cape Coral, use the same product. Belding confirmed the $64,500 figure is an annual cost and said staff reallocated one position to cover it.
Council moved and seconded the item without a presentation and approved the agreement; no opposition was recorded on the floor. Staff said the software should make CRS information and other flood-zone materials more readily available to the public and could help the city improve its CRS discount rating for flood insurance.
