CRA approves $46,246 grant for Rita’s Italian Ice exterior improvements

The Community Redevelopment Agency board approved a commercial property improvement matching grant of up to $46,246.03 for Ice Sisters LLC, the local Rita’s Italian Ice at 4666 South Cleveland Avenue.
Xavier Colon, who presented the application, said the applicant applied for Tier 1 (75% reimbursement) and that the lowest estimates for eligible work — exterior painting, window and door replacement, awning replacement and parking lot restriping — totalled $61,661.37, producing the $46,246.03 grant request. General manager Georgia Reagan told the board she learned about the program through repeated CRA emails and that the reimbursement amount shown on outreach materials prompted her to apply: "Several emails had come out."
The motion to approve was moved by Mr. Coleman and seconded by Ms. Ware; the voice vote was recorded as unanimous among the four board members present. Staff noted one awning quote was from a branded vendor required by the franchise relationship.
