The Fort Myers City Council opened its meeting with a moment of silence to honor former Mayor Bruce Grady, who previously represented Ward 5 and served as mayor in the late 1990s.
"This past least, week, we lost, former mayor Bruce Grady," Mayor Anderson said at the start of the meeting. Councilmembers noted Grady's years of service — as a Ward 5 council member from 1988 to 1996 and as mayor from 1996 to 2000 — and offered condolences to his family.
Councilmember Beauchene suggested the council consider dedicating a street or other local honor in Grady's memory. "With the passing of mayor Grady, we should also consider that on the passing of all the years that we dedicate a street or something in their memory," Beauchene said, urging the body to identify an appropriate tribute.
No formal motion to create a memorial or honorary naming was filed during the meeting; councilmembers generally agreed the idea merited future consideration alongside other honorary-naming requests.
