The department representative (introduced as "Mister Vest") said the preparedness grant increased to $25,000 this year and that the bulk of the award will be used to pay FICA and part‑time salary for a preparedness coordinator. Vest also said the department intends to contract for a health educator and to use funds for ongoing CPR and Stop the Bleed training for school staff. When asked whether the programs include private and church schools, the presenter replied, "Absolutely. We support all of them." Vest invited council members to an August 14 meeting with the state health commissioner to discuss department work and annual reports.
The council approved the appropriations as part of the overall additional appropriations ordinance adopted later in the meeting.
