Residents press developer and city on flooding and Mission Road impacts from Edgewater Village

Two residents spoke during public comment opposing a perceived risk of increased flooding and construction impacts from the proposed Edgewater Village.

Mark Maller (speaker 7), a Coral Trace resident, said his lot sits low and that existing runoff already flows toward the project site; he asked whether a berm would trap his neighborhood's water and requested an explicit drainage plan and potential impact-fee credit for work his HOA already funded on Coral Trace Boulevard.

"When I built it, it came so close to the front door ... my back is meant about this high when we built it," Maller said describing near-flooding at his property and urging the board to require a plan for runoff and construction-hour limits during the multi-year build.

Jerry Khan (speaker 8) urged the board to prioritize improvements to Mission Road (the stretch from 442 to Park) as housing and other developments add traffic. Khan said he supports the project as lower-traffic than commercial development but emphasized road safety and quicker upgrades.

The developer responded that he has met with the city engineer and county officials, asserted the site would not release additional runoff, and said storm detention and routing to a county conservancy basin are part of the plan. Residents asked for engineering evidence and said they might hire an independent engineer to review floodplain effects; no technical report was presented during the meeting.
