Wyoming County health department updates: fall prevention, syringe disposal, rural network and outreach events

Public Health staff briefed the committee on multiple ongoing initiatives during the April 1 meeting. Staff listed projects including a fall-prevention initiative with OFA; the BOLD Program in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association; replacement of a syringe disposal unit at WCCHS; designation of WNY R-AHEC as the rural health network for Genesee, Orleans and Wyoming Counties; and suicide-prevention activities (QPR, LOSS Program, NACCHO Community of Practice).
Staff also reported operational items: a website refresh, a call with Dr. Collins and the DEC about an instance of someone housing a raccoon, lead testing through GOW Health, and outreach events including an Easter Egg Hunt at Warsaw Village Park on April 3 focused on children and youth with special needs. PH Admin. Paolucci noted a recent meeting with County Administrator Schrader regarding upcoming challenges. Supervisor A. D. Berwanger said he had discussed the county with the NYS Commissioner of Health and invited the commissioner to Wyoming County.
