Landowners urge stronger narratives after state grant cycle awarded just six of 47 applications

Bob and Joe Wietharn, local landowners, and representatives from Schwab Eaton met with the Board to review the state's evaluation of the county's asphalt grant application and discuss strategy for the fall cycle. Mr. Wietharn said "future applications need a stronger title and a detailed narrative," and noted that successful applicants generally apply multiple times. He reported that of the $32 million available in the spring application period, 47 applications were submitted and six projects were awarded.
Mr. Wietharn asked that the Board determine the county's financial contribution for a fall application cycle and noted that support letters from the current application could be reused. The Board took the information for consideration; no formal funding commitment was recorded in the minutes.
