Commissioner Keith Kelly said the decision reflects tighter budgets and the Board’s policy to stop appropriations that are not mandated by Kansas statute. Commissioner Linda Gerhardt suggested York check with County Clerk Kristie Richter to see whether funds remain in the parks and recreation account. York asked the Board to consider a smaller appropriation instead of eliminating county support entirely; Kelly said the Board would discuss the request further.
