Commissioners reviewed and approved a broad packet of updated personnel and operations policies, including policies on consensual relationships/nepotism, workplace lactation, position descriptions, post-offer strength testing, attendance, confidentiality, voluntary termination and CDL drug‑and‑alcohol testing provisions.
Staff explained that many of the changes align existing policy language with state and federal requirements; commissioners asked clarifying questions about which positions require strength tests, how a Medical Review Officer (MRO) will be identified and whether language referring to a "company" should be revised to say the county. The clerk and HR staff confirmed they will substitute the proper terms and bring an amended copy of policy 50.09 for signature.
A motion to approve the packet as presented, with recommended changes to 50.09, carried by voice vote. Commissioners were clear that policy 50.09 would not be signed until the requested wording changes are made and the final version is presented for signature.
"We can change that," a commissioner said during review after noting policy language that referenced a non-county employer; staff agreed to correct the wording and return 50.09 for final signature next week.
