Anderson elected chair after repeated vice-chair ballots; Groskreutz wins vice-chair in 3-2 vote

Bruce Anderson was elected chair of the Faribault County Board of Commissioners for 2026 after nominations opened at the board's Jan. 6 meeting in Blue Earth. Commissioner Greg Young nominated Anderson, and the board unanimously approved him as chair.
Vice-chair voting required multiple rounds. Commissioner Tom Loveall nominated Commissioner Gertrude Paschke; Commissioner Greg Young nominated Commissioner Bill Groskreutz. Two early ballots failed (2-2 splits with Commissioner Groskreutz abstaining in the first rounds), prompting discussion about voting procedures. On the final vote, Young/Anderson carried 3-2 to appoint Groskreutz as vice-chair for 2026; Commissioners Paschke and Loveall voted no, and Groskreutz, Young, and Anderson voted yes. The board discussed the vote counts and amended the Dec. 16, 2025 minutes to correct prior vote-count language related to a County Attorney COLA raise and budget levy.
The reorganizational actions were followed by routine business, including approval of the Jan. 6 agenda and a public comment from Milton Steele raising concerns about the county budget and a data request. The meeting was called to order by County Coordinator Brian Hov and recessed to the Drainage Authority during the agenda.
