Council OKs home-based robotics instruction on 3rd Street with conditions

The Herndon Town Council voted to approve Resolution 26-GS-42 granting Special Exception SE-2604865 for a home-based business at a corner property on 3rd Street to host supervised robotics and coding classes operated by Kate Mansouri’s Launch Hub Learning. Staff and the Planning Commission recommended conditions to limit clients and preserve the residential character of the neighborhood.
Lisa Gillerin, Director of Community Development, described the conditions: “The maximum number of clients per session, children per session will not exceed 10,” and staff required that child drop-off and pickup be limited to the driveway and that an employee be present in the driveway to direct children into the house. The ordinance also restricts lesson lengths and schedules during the Fairfax County Public School year and summer recess to reduce traffic and noise impacts.
Council moved and approved the resolution by roll call 6–0 with one member absent. The approval allows the business to operate under the specified schedule and staffing conditions; no public commenters spoke on the item during the hearing.
