Horry County Council approved Resolution R80-2026 designating June 27–28, 2026, as Amateur Radio Days in Horry County. The resolution recognizes volunteer amateur-radio operators for their role in emergency communications, disaster response and weather monitoring.
Sam Hodge was recognized during the presentation and Todd Rush, identified as president of the Grand Strand Amateur Radio Club, told the council the club "stands ready to support Horry County when requested this coming hurricane season." He also invited members and families to the club's Field Day on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Conway. "My name is Todd Rush. I am the president of the Grand Strand Amateur Radio Club," he said.
Council members unanimously approved the resolution. The presentation noted the Field Day exercise demonstrates volunteer operators’ ability to provide self-sustaining communications when traditional systems are unavailable and thanked the club and Emergency Management for sponsoring the proclamation.
