Board approves surplus-property sale, hospital-board slate and two large purchases

At the Sept. 23 meeting the Stephens County Board of Commissioners approved several administrative items including acceptance of a successful auction bid for surplus real property, forwarding a slate of candidates for the Stephens County Hospital Authority, and authorizing payment on two invoices over $10,000.
Staff said the auction for surplus property at 194 East Silver Shoals Road was held Friday the 19th at 4 p.m.; one bidder, Brandon Mitchell, met the minimum bid and the board accepted the $5.00 bid and authorized the chair to sign the resolution to dispose of the property. The board also approved a slate of six names for two open seats on the hospital authority (three nominees for each vacancy as required by state law): Cassandra Wilkins, Sherry Beavers and Josh Rickman for one seat; Rick Phillips, Lori McAvoy and Melissa Mitchell for the other.
Separately, staff listed two procurements exceeding $10,000: a $21,132.50 contract with Greenville Trimlight for historic courthouse lighting and a $91,223.45 purchase from Central Atlanta Tractor Sales for a new excavator (to be procured through Sourcewell under state contract and paid from the Public Works restricted fund, not general taxpayer funds). The board voted to pay the bills and carried the motions by voice vote.
