Troup County honors longtime medical director Dr. Gary Sultz for decades of volunteer service

The Troup County Board of Commissioners on March 17 presented a plaque to Dr. Gary Sultz in recognition of more than two decades serving as the county's medical director and more than 45 years in medicine.
Zach Steele, who presented the recognition on behalf of county leadership, said Sultz graduated from the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University in 1980, served as an Army Ranger and has "been the medical director for Troup County in LaGrange for more than 20 years and has over 45 years in the medical field." Steele noted past honors including a commendation from the LaGrange Police Department and regional EMS medical-director awards in 2017 and 2018, and said Sultz provided much of his county medical-director service without compensation.
Dr. Sultz spoke briefly to commissioners and attendees about his decision to volunteer. "These are people I take care of. That's my way of paying back to the community," he said, describing emergency-room work in LaGrange as feeling "like family." He thanked the board and those present for the recognition.
Chair (speaker 1) thanked Dr. Sultz for his dedication to the community and invited him to return for the board's 9 a.m. meetings, a suggestion the honoree declined, citing retirement.
The board took no policy action related to the recognition; after the presentation the meeting moved to a motion to adjourn and ended.
