Resident urges clearer explanation of HB 581 and raises concerns about assessment inequities, mobile homes and patrols

"We initially bought a house that was on the lake that was valued at 75% of value and all of our neighbors were at 50% of value... it's real hard to go argue that your house is not worth what it's worth when you've paid more than what it is, but yet it's inequitable," Miss Jeffers said, describing how differences in assessment timing and treatment created disparities between neighbors. She also warned that a large share of new housing in the county are mobile homes that typically depreciate, arguing that future assessment math could further skew tax burdens.
She asked commissioners to rework assessments and consider millage adjustments and added a separate request that the county consider dividing the county into patrol routes so enforcement isn't only complaint-driven. Commissioners thanked her for the comments and said they would consider priority areas for deputies when they have staffing availability.
