Board approves corrective action plan for county landfill and orders operational fixes

Landfill Director Rhonda Carroll presented KDHE correspondence and a corrective action letter prepared by Schwab Eaton. Commissioner Carlson raised concerns about debris piled near landfill roadways that was preventing vehicle turnarounds; the Board directed Ms. Carroll and staff to clear debris, repair a skid steer hydraulic leak immediately, begin mowing and trash pickup using the new rake, and hold regular employee meetings to improve communication.
The Board approved the corrective action plan prepared by Schwab Eaton and directed that it be submitted to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE). No timeline beyond the immediate repairs was recorded in the minutes.
