Highway administrator reports pipe repairs, bridge work and equipment service calls

Jeff Germann, interim Highway Administrator, updated the Clay County Board on recent maintenance and repair work across county roads and bridges.
Germann described a pipe repair on 4th Road between Kiowa Road and Limestone Road that included asphalt replacement and regrading to secure the area. Crews bladed dirt roads and hauled dirt and rip rap to Frontier Road between 7th and 8th Road. The county replaced a bridge west of Vining; Germann reported that the costs owed by Clay and Washington counties were similar and the neighboring county agreed to pay for its own work while Clay County paid for the structure Clay replaced.
Germann also noted a service call to Murphy Tractor for excavator issues and said he will report on needed repairs next week. Shilling Construction took samples of Redwood Road between 11th and 12th Road to investigate spot defects on the asphalt. The Board instructed Germann to confer with County Attorney Brenda Jordan about documents related to Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks road vacations and a drainage issue west of Morganville.
The Board received the report and asked for follow-up on equipment repairs and legal documentation related to vacating roads and drainage issues.
