Clay County Medical Center eyes $2.536M grant for robotic surgery; new surgeons, staffing and parking plans reported

Austin Gillard, CEO of Clay County Medical Center, told the Clay County Board that CCMC is pursuing several staffing and capital developments intended to expand local surgical and primary-care capacity.
"Dr. Wolters will begin his Family Practice at Clay Center Family Physicians on August 10, 2026," Gillard reported and said CCMC is working with the State on a $2.536 million grant awarded for purchase of a DaVinci Robotic Surgical System. Gillard told the Board the hospital is also looking forward to the arrival of two new general surgeons, employees of Surgical Associates, who will each be on site one day a week.
Gillard reported operational matters including a shortage of employee parking and a potential design that would provide 26 additional parking spaces in the triangle west of the Medical Center. He also noted that Dr. John Kelley will retire at the end of July and that Dr. Hein will take over as Emergency Room Medical Director. The hospital is doing a small construction project to give each IT technician a small office and is applying for a health grant to fund two community health workers for five years.
The Board received the report and no formal action on grants or construction was recorded in the minutes; CCMC said it will continue working with the State on the grant agreement and return with additional details as needed.
