Council approves Officer Bronn’s certification and entry into regional Tactical Response Team

The City Council voted to allow Officer Bronn to complete certification and join the area Tactical Response Team on a probationary basis.
Chief Rodriguez described the benefits of having Bronn on the TRT and said the department would cover personnel shifts while Bronn trains and when he is called into service. “Initial costs are estimated to be $6,000,” the minutes state; Chief Rodriguez also noted the Moses Lake Police Department will donate uniform gear, reducing the department’s upfront expense. Bronn would need to attend a four-day certification class in December 2025.
Councilmembers asked how the addition would affect patrol coverage. Councilmember Piercy raised shift-coverage concerns, and Josh Fanning inquired about negotiation training to “talk down” situations; Chief Rodriguez responded that negotiations are part of the training and that TRT is used as a last resort. Officer Soelter, calling in by phone, expressed support and said the department is already seeing benefits from TRT training several officers have received.
A motion to approve Bronn’s certification and participation carried (m/s Kannely/Fanning). The minutes do not record a roll-call tally beyond noting the motion carried.
