Local firefighters warn closing Kaysby station would increase response times and oppose district dissolution

At the public-comment portion, John Managee, speaking for the Cajun Fire Department, said officers have "almost 100 years of service combined," described monthly joint training with career crews and volunteers and argued that Smith Street's closure has increased response times and hampered volunteers' access to the station. "Smith Street has been closed for well over a year, which increases the response times," Managee said, urging the township to reopen the street.

Managee also noted the budget and oversight processes that produce the districts' budgets and said long-standing budgets have been approved annually. He reiterated strong opposition to closing the Kaysby firehouse, stating, "we are strongly against the closing of this firehouse and the shutting down of this fire district."

Other public commenters raised operational concerns; the mayor and clerk responded on asset-transfer and permitting questions and directed residents to file formal requests for documentary follow-up where appropriate.
